When God Is Silent

When God is silent,

I tremble in the darkness,

afraid of the night

and my own troubled dreams.

My ears strain for his words,

my heart believing that

I cannot live one more day

without his answer.

But I do,

finding the strength I have asked for

locked in each breath that I take.

I slowly begin to understand

that silence is not always meant to be filled

nor does it change him,

but it changes me.

And my answer becomes he himself,

when God is silent.
